Adding a P&ID
Load the tag list of a P&ID into the tracker, check it, and use it to build the instrument index. Nothing reaches the index until you have reviewed the result and clicked Build index.
What you need
- The P&ID number and the revision you are working from.
- The tag list for that drawing, gathered from the P&ID, a P&ID index or your own records.
- The import template, downloaded from the P&ID import tab. A CSV file with the same columns also works.
Template columns
- Tag, P&ID Number and P&ID Revision are required.
- Service and Line Number are optional.
- Supplied By (Client, Vendor or Contractor) and Supplier Notes record information supplied by someone else.
- A blank optional cell never overwrites what is already in the index.
The steps
- 1. Download the template and fill in one row per tag.
- 2. Upload it (Excel or CSV). Nothing is added yet.
- 3. Match the columns. Template columns are matched automatically. Check them, then click Validate.
- 4. Review the result. Each row is New, Changed, No change or Error. Tags in the index on the same P&ID that are missing from the file are listed as Not in file and are never deleted.
- 5. Deal with errors. Correct the spreadsheet and import it again, or exclude the rows. The index cannot be built while errors remain.
- 6. Choose what happens to changed tags. The default is Leave tag as it is. Choose Update tag for each one, or Update all.
- 7. Optional: attach a reference PDF of the P&ID revision and tick Checked against the P&ID.
- 8. Build the index. New tags are added, the changes you chose are applied, and every change is written to the Change log.
Importing a newer revision
- Import the new revision the same way. The tracker compares it with the index and shows what is new, changed or missing.
- The revision is recorded in the P&ID register. Datasheets frozen on an earlier revision are then flagged for review.
- Import revisions in order, oldest first.
About the reference PDF
- It is kept as a reference only. Tags are never read from it, and it may not match your spreadsheet.
- Check the tags against the drawing yourself. When a PDF is attached, the Checked box must be ticked before the index can be built.
- Do not upload real or confidential drawings to this public demo.
Try it in the demo
- P&ID import tab: Download the template, add a few fictional tags such as NGP-PT-9101 on P&ID NGP-100-PID-10-0001, upload it and review the result.
- Change the service text of an existing tag in your file to see it listed as Changed.
- Change log tab: After building, see each added or updated tag with the date, the person and the reason.
To try this in the tracker, request access at tracker@inc.10mb.com. The project is a fictional gas plant, so edit freely.
You can: browse every tab, edit tags and datasheets, download and upload Excel files, run sign-off, freeze revisions and run the validation checks.
You cannot: reset the demo data, change the status date or the sign-off setup (administrators only), or open the WordPress admin area.
Reset: the demo reloads every night at 3:00 am Pacific, so nothing you save is kept. Please do not enter real or confidential information.
